For visitors
When you plan a cruising, ports of call could be the most important and difficult one to decide especially for area that you do not know. Size and depth of boat, purpose of cruising, crew member configuration are decisive factors, however safety should be the most important one. We offer you to consider Nio Marina even when typhoon is hitting and/or when you decide interruption of cruising leaving the boat away from homeport. The mooring fee is reasonable and it is about several hundred dollars for a month.
Although Nio Marina can offer all significant value, it is unfortunate to say transportation in and out Nio Marina is not convenient at all. Community bus is available once every hour but they take longer time as driving detouring route and nearest train station is 5km away, so on. Nio Marina offers free of charge bicycles and you may access shops within 2km distance by riding. The most convenient choice can be a Rent-a-cars (35$/ as12h for 660cc minicar) as they deliver and pick up the car at Nio Marina. Please ask marina clerk for details and availability. We recommend all visitors to go and pray at the Sea-God Shrine (Konpira-san) in 15km East from Nio Marina. Konpira-san is respected as a guardian of navy long time and seaman pray for the safe every new year.
About Nio Marina
Access from sea
Starting from a waypoint in South-West of Maruyama-Island at N34.213333, E133.606667 look for a small red lighthouse in East-South-East to reach N34.204978, E133.630348. Nio Marina Entry is on your left. In Setouchi waters, Nio Marina is believed to be the safest harbor even while typhoon is approaching and it holds 300 sail/power boats on water and land. Visitor pontoon is capable of holding 100ft long boat.

Nio Marina is operated in accordance with Mitoyo city ordinance. Marina Club House opens 9 to 17h, therefore shower rooms, rest rooms are available only when the club house is in operation. Rest rooms in the service yard opens 24h a day. Marina security is therefore well established and entry card is provided for visitors while mooring boats at the marina.
Restaurant (Wine shokudo Palmier)
Wine shokudo Palmier was promoted by members of NYOC on the 2nd floor of Nio Marina club house, beside Nio Marina Owners’ room. Visitors are eligible to access it and communicate with us for information.
The restaurant operates to Nio Marina calendar and closes on every Tuesday as well as 2nd Wednesday of the month. Owners’ room is located behind the wine rack and owners can dine in this room as well.

Convenience stores
Walk down the main road straight forward until the first stop light appears. Making a right turn at this stop light to South and walk down by a canal on your left. 1km where another convenience store Lawson is available as well. Their merchandises are more or less the same except brand names.
Very local small size Supermarket (Food store) Imagawa
There is only one supermarket in Nio community where you can shop local foods, food materials such as pastas, cans, ingredients, etc. If you look for foods that are not usually available at convenience stores, please visit the supermarket, Imagawa. You may ask for a free bicycle from the marina for your convenience.
Mid-size Supermarket PICASO

When you look for wider range of merchandises than those handled by the local supermarket Imagawa, the mid-size supermarket PICASO is our recommendation however you need a rent-a-car as it is about 5km distance from the marina. Coin laundry facility including a dryer is available beside PICASO.
Public bath (Ohi-Onsen)
There are shower rooms available at the club house during 9AM-5PM(120yen per person). If you like to take a hot bath, our recommendation is Ohi-Onsen (Public bath 400Yen per person) offering an authentic atmosphere right after you open the Noren (Shop curtain).
Please note that the temperature of bathwater is really hot even for ordinal Japanese. Please check it out with your hand first and wash your body before soaking into bathwater.
Japan Post office
Right on the corner at the traffic right approaching to the local supermarket Imagawa. Japan Post office is located. In addition to postal services, ATM is available and major credit cards are acceptable for cashing.
Rent-a-car (OPEN Air Rentals Cars and Bikes by Koyo Oil company)
This local rent-a-car company is the only one that deliver and pick-up rent-a-car at the Nio Marina. You can ask the office clerk of the marina for reservation. There are several types of car available and the charge is reasonable. We recommend K-car (Japanese 660cc mini car being able to hold 4 persons) at 3,500Yen / 12h.
Chichibu-ga-hama beach
2.5km down South from the marina, you can visit and enjoy the Japanese version of Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia), so called Chichibu-ga-hama beach. You can see a mirror image scenery combining sky view on a water. You may walk down there or ask for a free bicycle from the marina to ride to Chichibu-ga-hama beach.
Udon noodle (Soul food of Kagawa-pref.)

Kagawa-prefecture is famous for Udon noodle as well as Pasta, Chinese noodle, variation from flour base food. Especially for Kagawa pref. local people, “Al Dente” and “Soup” are very important factors for selection of restaurant. Some or most of Udon restaurant are not (NOT) nice looking building, rather local people believe Udon shack might offer good quality Udon as the owner spend money for quality of food rather than for building. There are many Udon shacks and some are within 10-30 mis walking distance from the marina.
